Restaurant Fundraiser
Many restaurants have programs where they give a percentage of proceeds for charitable causes. Typically the store owner offers your church 10-15% of their receipts during a special event at their restaurant. The idea is that you get everyone in your group involved in recruiting people to go to the restaurant during the event. Obviously, the more people that go, the more money that's donated to your trip. Some restaurants offer a special flyer that you can use to promote the event.
Make It A Party!
One way to maximize the impact of an event like this is to hold a special party at the restaurant during the event. That way it's a bigger draw for the people in your church, and you can be sure that at least the people in your party will be purchasing food and bumping up the donation you'll receive.
Get creative!
Order a big sheet cake, (or better yet, get it donated from the local bakery). Get cool gift baskets donated from local businesses and hold a silent auction during the event. Get party hats, and those party favor noise maker thingies. Ask the restaurant manager if you can hang streamers and banners.
