Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, SD

Located in the southwest corner of South Dakota lies the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation; home to the Oglala Lakota Sioux Nation.  This is the land of the Black Hills, Badlands, and the massacre at Wounded Knee.

The Oglala are a proud and wonderful people with a rich heritage; they are the decendants of Crazy Horse and Red Cloud.  Their culture is one filled with respect, kindness, and generosity.

With a population of approximately 40,000, Pine Ridge is the second largest reservation in America.  The reservation is beset with problems arising from poverty which include alcoholism, poor health conditions, and lack of proper housing.

YWAM Minneapolis has been sending short-term teams to Pine Ridge for the past five years.  Your group will come alongside local ministries who are meeting both the physical and spiritual needs of the Oglala people.  Ministry opportunities include children’s programs, community gardening, feeding the homeless, service projects, prayer walking, and much more.

Come to Pine Ridge and join hands with the Oglala Lakota Nation.  Discover a new culture and gain a greater understanding of the history of this nation and God’s love for all people.
