Cancun, Mexico

Bringing God’s love to a hurting people

Cancun, Mexico is most well-known as a vacation spot, but that is only one side of the city.  Many of the workers in the hotel area come from different towns and villages, leaving their friends and family behind. The average person might have about twelve friends and relations in Mexico City, but only three or four in Cancun.  So in a city of almost a million people, many have a feeling of not quite belonging or fitting in.  This has led to Cancun having the highest suicide rate in Mexico.  Poor people who come following dreams of a better life are instead faced with a crushing loneliness and isolation.

There are two parts to the ministry we do in Cancun: evangelism and service ministry.  In both cases you’ll get to be part of an ongoing work through local ministries.  Evangelism is often begun with a program of skits, puppets and dramas in the local park, which leads to openings for you to share your faith with those who have come to watch.  The service ministry can range from helping to build an orphanage to picking up trash.  Through it all, prayer is key as you bring God’s love to a hurting people.
